The Museum of Ancient Greek Technology is in Katakolo, Elis, Greece. It was founded by Kostas Kotsanas and holds 200 operating reconstructions of mechanisms and inventions of the ancient Greeks covering the period from 2200 BC to 100 AD. Included is a well-stocked section on the musical instruments of the ancient Greeks, including a copy of the Hydraulis of Ctesibius, the first clavier in musical instrument history, and the ancestor of the modern pipe organ.
Also shown are a number of 'guitars': variants on the ancient kithara, from which the word 'guitar' derives.
